I have been studying persons who work with and/or who are responsible for care of the vulnerable aged. This research which considered formal guardians of older persons was reported in Older Wards and their Guardians (with R. Wacker) as well as in articles. Changes in statues were studied in relation to decisions about types of guardianship.

I conducted research on volunteer resident advocates in an ombudsman program. This research was published in Doing Good for the Aged and in several articles. More recently, I studied responses of nursing home administrators to the presence of resident advocates in their facilities and their perceptions of anti-facility bias. Current research is focused on health care hassles of informal caregivers of the chronically ill. I am the departmental teaching coordinator and teach an advanced research methods course for undergraduates.
