Soc 591: Orientation to Graduate Students

Sociology 591 describes the graduate program, requirements for Master's and PhD degrees, the areas of PhD concentration, and the guidelines for completing the PhD preliminary examinations. It describes faculty expectations of graduate students and graduate student expectations of faculty. Students learn about faculty and student research and teaching interests. The course helps graduate students understand POS committees and the process of writing a Master's thesis or PhD dissertation.
