Ph.D. Minor / Co-Major Requirements
Ph.D. Minor Requires:
• Soc 505 (3 cr) Historical Sociological Theory
• Soc 511 (3 cr) Intermediate Research Methods
• Soc 607 (3 cr) Contemporary Sociological Theory
• One of the following two courses (3 cr):
° Soc 512 Sociological Measurement
° Soc 513 Qualitative Research Methods
And other Sociology courses (at least one of which must be at the 600 level) for a total of 24 credits in Sociology.
Ph.D. Co-Major Requires:
• Soc 505 (3 cr) Historical Sociological Theory
• Soc 511 (3 cr) Intermediate Research Methods
• An advanced methods course in the sociology methodology concentration (3 cr):
° Soc 512 Sociological Measurement
° Soc 513 Qualitative Research Methods
° Soc 613 Advanced Theory Construction and Causal Modeling
• Stat 401 (4 cr) Statistical Methods for Research Workers
• Stat 404 (3 cr) Regression for Social and Behavioral Research
• Soc 607 (3 cr) Contemporary Sociological Theory
The requirements for one Ph.D. concentration area other than Methodology, and one advanced Sociology course in an area other than the one concentration area selected.
Co-Major Requirements for the Graduate Program in Sustainable Agriculture:
The Graduate Program in Sustainable Agriculture (GPSA) develops student competence and expertise in the design, implementation, and evaluation of sustainable agricultural systems. The program's curriculum satisfies the formal requirements for the MS and PhD degrees, as established by the ISU Graduate College, and fosters transdisciplinary and systems-level thinking.
