Community Studies and Development

In this concentration students explore the different meanings of the concept of community, but with a focus on communities of place and their interaction with individuals and groups. Social and cultural changes in rural and urban communities are examined, as well as strategies for community action and improvement. The meso-level theoretical and methodological approach of community research is particularly useful in the analysis of collective action. Students selecting this area are expected to complete a minimum of 12 credit hours.
