Building Foods & Natural Resources Communities

  • Overview
  • Faculty & Staff

Iowa's food and natural resource base is diverse and dynamic, a source of economic and social prosperity for Iowa's communities.  The integration of our growing scientific knowledge about agriculture, food and our natural environment with local knowledge, beliefs and attitudes is essential if Iowa is to continue to be a leader in agriculture and a model in environmental protection and restoration.  Sociology Extension works with farmers, landowners, community residents and their organizations to encourage decisions and actions that will protect, restore and use our natural resource base to strengthen Iowa communities.  Current programming includes:

Biorenewables
Emerging Meat Markets
Grassland and Prairies
Iowa Farm and Rural Life Poll
Iowa Food Security, Insecurity, and Hunger
Sustainable Agriculture
Water quality and watershed management
Women in Agriculture
Latino and Local Food Systems
