FAQs
Is attendance required?
As indicated on your syllabus, attendance is not required. As adults, we are all required to make choices about where our presence is needed most. Therefore, your attendance in class is completely up to you. However, I personally feel very strongly that participation in class is important to your educational experience. And, even though you may not be in class, you are still responsible for ALL material presented in class and ALL changes in assignments and course requirements. Furthermore, any extra credit opportunities that might be available will be announced in class. Therefore, it is ultimately in your best interest to attend class.
What should I call you?
I am quite sure that I’ve been called multiple things in the past by my students -- some nice, some not so nice. When addressing me, I ask that you refer to me in one of the following ways: Alicia (preferred), Dr. Cast, or Professor Cast.
Are the exams cumulative?
No, the exams are not cumulative. You will only be tested over material that you haven’t been tested on yet. Do be aware though that later materials in the course build on material presented earlier in the course; in this sense, the material is cumulative.
What format are the exams?
In order to acknowledge the different strengths of individuals, exams in this course are half multiple choice/true false and have essay/short answer.
Do you give out review sheets?
Yes, I do provide review sheets for the exam.
Do you give out extra credit?
Sometimes, if I feel like it. I get grumpy when students ask for it though. Don’t rely on extra credit to get you out of a jam at the last minute. That makes me even grumpier.
